Since McDonald's first said it was opening a new restaurant chain months ago, customers have finally had a chance to see the idea and hear some exciting hints about what might be on the menu.
Chris Kempczinski, CEO of McDonald's, said in July that the company was going to start testing a new restaurant name called CosMc's in early 2024. The brand name comes from CosMc, the six-armed alien McDonald's mascot that was used in ads in the 1980s and 1990s.
During the earnings call, Kempczinski wasn't very specific about the new chain. He only said that it would be a "small format concept with all the DNA of McDonald's but its own unique personality."
The video, which has been watched over 489,000 times, showed real footage of a Bolingbrook, Illinois, CosMc's that is still being built. The outside of the restaurant looks blue, and the CosMc's name is written in big, old-fashioned letters on the outside.
Not only that, but Snackolator noticed that the location has four huge drive-thru lanes, which made him think that the new restaurant chain will focus on food orders to go rather than eating in.
It's still not clear what will be served at CosMc's when it opens, but some people think it will be more of a straight competitor with Starbucks.
Snackolator talked about rumors that the chain will serve more coffee and drinks from McDonald's McCafé line instead of its normal burgers and fries. The coffee idea does make sense, since the Bolingbrook CosMc's is being built right next to an existing McDonald's.
Snackolator also said he hoped that CosMc's would sell some of the tasty items that you can only get at McDonald's stores outside of the US.
For now, fans will have to keep waiting for more information about what kinds of foods will be on the CosMc's menu. Kempczinski did say on the July earnings call that more information would be given at McDonald's yearly investors meeting next week, on Dec. 6.
So people who eat at McDonald's should stay tuned because there will be new information soon!
