The two-time All-Star and 2017 All-NBA 2nd Teamer worked out for the Milwaukee Bucks as he attempts to return to the NBA for a 13th season. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that Thomas worked out with the Bucks alongside a handful of former NBA players.
"Sources tell me Isaiah Thomas worked out for the Bucks today in Las Vegas," Charania said. "The two-time All-Star guard is working on an NBA return after finishing up last season with the Phoenix Suns.
He had the call-up after a stellar few games in the NBA G League. So they had a workout — the Bucks did — in Las Vegas today that included Isaiah Thomas, Justise Winslow, Hamidou Diallo, Will Barton, and Jaylen Nowell.
So you have a few former NBA guards potentially vying for a training camp opportunity with the Bucks."
Thomas earned a 10-day contract with the Suns this past season, appearing in six games. Those were his first games at the NBA level since 2021-22, when he appeared in 22 games for the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks.
Thomas has bounced all around the league since his peak from 2015-17 with the Boston Celtics. Thomas made back-to-back All-Star teams and made the All-NBA 2nd Team, while finishing fifth in MVP voting in the 2016-17 season.
After averaging 28.9 points per game in 2016-17, Thomas hasn't had a season in which he averaged more than 16 points per game. He also hasn't appeared in more than 40 games in a season since then.
Thomas was once of the more prolific scorers in the league. At just 5-foot-9, he had an incredible ability to create space and finish against much taller defenders. Unfortunately, those same opportunities haven't been given to Thomas. At 35 years old, he's not done trying.
Thomas will hope to earn a roster spot with Milwaukee, but is also competing against a handful of NBA veterans in Winslow, Diallo, Barton, and Nowell.
Winslow's last NBA action came in 2022-23 with the Portland Trail Blazers, when he appeared in 29 games. Barton's last NBA action also came in 2022-23, when he split 56 games with the Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors.
